Mike Stevens
Camp Director
Mike Stevens is the Head Women's Tennis coach at Binghamton University. He has been running and working at tennis camps since 1990.
Since head coach Mike Stevens arrived at Binghamton at the start of the 2003-04 season, the Binghamton women's tennis program has been in good hands. He has guided the Bearcats to a 59-31 dual match record and has been named the America East Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2006. In the past four seasons alone, Binghamton has gone 54-20 in dual matches, including a perfect 14-0 against America East opponents during the regular season. At the America East Tournament, Binghamton has been the runner up in 2005, 2006 and 2008.
During Stevens' five years at Binghamton, the program has had numerous accomplishments both on and off the court. The Bearcats had the America East Conference Player of the Year in 2005 and 2007 (Zeynep Altinay) and its Rookie of the Year in 2006 and 2008 (Juliana Umeki and Anna Edelman respectively). In addition, a program-best four players qualified for the ITA East Regional in October 2005 and this past year, the Bearcats had the No. 15 doubles team in the ITA East Region (Edelman and Lauren Bates). Furthermore, the entire Bearcat squad posted a 3.23 GPA during the 2005-06 season and earned academic honors from the ITA.
Besides his stellar coaching record, Stevens has been just as successful recruiting. In each of the past two seasons, Tennisrecruiting.net has ranked the Bearcats' incoming class among the top 25 mid-major programs in the nation. This includes a No. 4 ranking for the 2007 incoming class.
Stevens arrived at Binghamton from Southeast Missouri State, where he was the head coach during the 2002-03 season. During that year, Southeast Missouri State quadrupled its win total in dual matches. It was the best season the program had since 1998.
Prior to his arrival at Southeast Missouri State, Stevens was the assistant men's and women's tennis coach at N.C. State for one season (2001-2002) and was the women's assistant coach at Yale for two seasons (1999-2001). While at Yale, he was the acting head coach during the 2000 spring semester while the head coach was away on maternity leave. Stevens led that team to a 15-6 record and a No. 61 ranking in the nation.
From 1990-94, Stevens was the head men's and women's tennis coach at Rider University. After that, he was a Product Development Specialist for the Prince Sports Group in Bordentown, N.J. Stevens then moved on to become the Director of Tennis Operations for the Currituck Club (located in Corolla, N.C.) from 1994-96.
In 1987, Stevens earned his bachelor's degree in business from the University of Richmond.
